Children’s fun clubs bring summer smiles to Shrewsbury
Summer of free activities prove a hit with families at Darwin and Pride Hill
Families have been flocking to Shrewsbury Shopping’s Darwin and Pride Hill Centres this summer for free days of games and craft-filled fun.
The “Snapper Jaxx” kids’ club has been at the centres each week throughout the school holidays, offering everything from sporty fun and dancing with robots through to science experiments and Egyptian-themed antics.
“We love being able to stage free activities for children during the school holidays, and wanted to do something extra special for the summer,” said Shrewsbury Shopping Centre Manager Kevin Lockwood. “Snapper Jaxx has been incredibly popular already this year, so we were delighted to see it return for the entire school holidays,” he said.
‘Andy Murraymint’ paid a visit to the town at the beginning of summer for some tennis-themed antics before Snapper Jaxx then hosted its own ‘Silly Games’ to mark the beginning of this summer’s massive sporting event in Rio. Subsequent weeks have seen comedy characters helping children teach robots how to dance and taking part in spectacular messy science, as well as learning about ancient cultures in ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’.
“We’ve had a lot of parents tell us how much fun their children have had,” said Kevin. “It’s been wonderful to welcome all our ‘special guests’ to the centre and give so many children the chance to enjoy the free fun and craft activities.
“We’re now looking forward to planning our next exciting family event here at Shrewsbury Shopping Centres,” he said, “beginning with our lantern-making workshops and Halloween pumpkin-carving events.”
