For those of you who haven’t discovered Portofolio Clothing, we thought we’d take you behind the scenes for a closer look at this vibrant womenswear boutique in The Collective at Darwin. Portofolio’s owner; Georgia Bikakis, has fashion well and truly running through her blood. We caught up with Georgia to find out why she is passionate about helping her customers find that perfect look, for any occasion…
Tell us how you got into the fashion industry and the start of Portofolio…
I literally grew up in a women’s clothing store! My mum, in Crete where I originally come from, opened her boutique when I was around 3 years old. Since I can remember, I have always been around clothes and fashion shows.
Last October, Roman Originals decided to close the Shrewsbury store, along with others around the country. I had the position of the store manager. That is how my husband and I decided that it was the right time for me to have my own little women’s boutique. I love what I do and I have an excellent customer service driven personality. I suppose this was the perfect choice for me.
How would you describe Portofolio to those who haven’t yet discovered it?
I will use my customers comments: “A little hidden gem of a woman’s clothing shop…”
My passion for searching and finding beautiful clothing for real women is what makes Portofolio a definite destination. I love when customers look fantastic. That is my goal.
What is your favourite part of being a ladieswear boutique owner?
Meeting new people, making them feel comfortable and creating the perfect shopping environment is on my every day to do list. I want to be a part of finding the perfect dress or outfit for any occasion my customers shop for.
Any hot fashion tips for this winter?
My advice to every lady out there is feel comfortable in your own skin. Everyone is different. Fashion is just a word. It’s always good to keep yourself updated but know that what suits you, it’s your style. When you feel good in yourself, you shine. Clothing is a way to present ourselves and when it suits us, we create fashion! This is why I love helping women find the perfect items for their wardrobe!
Flats or heels?
Oh the ultimate question! I will only say that it doesn’t really matter too much when the person wears it right. I don’t think that anyone wants to look like a spider on ice skates, haha! When you know how to wear heels, you own it. Otherwise there’s some beautiful flats out there.
What do you love most about being part of The Collective at Darwin
I am grateful to have the opportunity to be part of an amazing group of individuals! All the independent traders in the Collective are passionate about what they’re offering and put their heart and soul into their businesses. They’re supportive and helpful with each other and it is a really good feeling when you know you can count on people.
